Questions & Answers

Why should I call Perfection?

We invite you to experience the hometown difference. Since 1999, Perfection Carpet Cleaning and Disaster Restoration has been delivering the highest quality carpet and upholstery care in Post Falls, Coeur d'Alene, Spokane and the surrounding areas. Using our knowledge and skills as IICRC trained professionals, we combine the most effective procedures, the right equipment and the best industry approved products to meet your specific needs.

What is IICRC certification?

The IICRC is the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification, a non-profit organization for the Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Industries. Their mission is to establish and advance globally recognized standards, credentials, and certifications for the inspection, cleaning, and restoration industries.

Since there are no legal regulations in place for the carpet cleaning industry, most carpet cleaners have no formal training. When a company is IICRC-certified, it means they’ve made an effort to educate themselves. As a IICRC-certified company, Perfection Carpet Cleaning and Disaster Restoration agrees to update our training on an ongoing basis and abide by a strict code of ethics.

How long does it take carpets to dry after they've been cleaned?

Drying times vary depending on a number of factors. Under ideal conditions, such as good air circulation, low outside humidity, and warm temperatures, they can dry in two to six hours. Upon request, we can provide complimentary air movers to speed up drying. The maximum amount of time a carpet should take to dry is 24 hours.

How can I get my carpets to dry faster?
The best way to get carpets to dry is to increase air circulation. We recommend using at least one fan per room. This will cut your drying time down tremendously. Upon request, we can provide complimentary air movers to speed up drying.

How often should I clean my carpets?

The answer depends on the amount of traffic the carpet receives.  According to the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration (IIRC) carpets should be cleaned a minimum of once per year. Routine cleanings can restore the look and luster of your carpets. Many carpet manufactures require you clean your carpets every 1-2 years to keep your warranty active. Check with your carpet retailer or warranty documents for details.

Do I need to do anything prior to your arrival for my scheduled service?

Yes. Please remove any breakable item from the tops of furniture in the room we will be cleaning. Pick up items from the floor in the areas you want cleaned including rugs, plants, trash baskets, or any other small items. Pre-vacuuming is optional.

Will you move furniture when you come?

We will move your furniture if requested, but we ask that you remove smaller and breakable items before we arrive. If we don’t have to move any furniture, your overall price quote will be less. Furniture items we will not move include: bookshelves, beds that are not on a frame with functioning rollers, hutches full of dishes, pianos, and any other furniture that contains or has breakables resting on its surface.  Any furniture we move will have protective foil pads or foam blocks put under the legs to protect it from getting wet and prevent any damage to the carpet from rust or wood stain transfer.

Do I have to move all furniture out of a room before you arrive to clean my carpets?

No, you don’t need to move all your furniture. Many of our customers just have “traffic areas” cleaned. If the general layout of your room stays the same then there won’t be any ground-in soil under items that requires our services. Any dust build up, etc. under furniture can be easily cleaned with a regular household vacuum.

What cleaning methods do you use?

We do most of our cleaning with our powerful truck-mounted system using hot water extraction. When other methods are required we can utilize portable extraction, encapsulation, oscillating pads, etc.

Is hot water extraction as good as steam cleaning?

There is no such thing as ‘steam cleaning’ carpets. Hot water extraction (HWE) is generally what the industry refers to as steam cleaning. Leading carpet manufacturers recommend hot water extraction cleaning. Actual steam occurs at over 212 degrees F and we clean at 230-240 degrees.

How is Perfection's cleaning system superior to do-it-yourself options?

There is no comparison between do-it-yourself options and our powerful, specialized equipment, IICRC certified training and professional expertise. Portable carpet cleaners available for rent or home purchase tend to leave a sticky, soapy residue and take days to dry. These types of machines rely on harsh chemicals and aggressive brushes that can damage your carpet and upholstery.

DIY carpet cleaning may also void your warranty. Most carpet manufactures require carpet cleaning to be done only by an IICRC certified technician.

I heard that professionally cleaning your carpet is bad for it. Is that true?

According to the IICRC, getting your carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year will increase the overall life span of your carpet. Letting a carpet get visibly soiled does more damage than frequent cleaning.

Over time, a buildup of abrasive soiling occurs that cannot be removed with regular vacuuming. These abrasive soils damage the fibers at a microscopic level and have a cumulative effect. Infrequent cleaning accelerates wear patterns in high traffic areas and can give carpets a dingy appearance over time. Our techniques and equipment rely on heat, high suction and thorough rinsing agents that are gentle on carpet fibers. Our primary goal is to achieve a carpet that is as clean as possible without altering its original state.

I have allergies. Should I remove my carpets or have them cleaned?

It is a common misconception that carpets aggravate allergies. In most cases, when allergies are linked to carpets, it is because they have not been maintained properly. A well-maintained carpet actually works as a filter for your home. Studies have shown that carpet is better at trapping allergens than hard surface flooring such as tile or hard. Allergens fall to the floor and get trapped in the carpet fibers, reducing their continued circulation in the air. These particles can then be vacuumed up.

Should I apply a carpet protectant after my carpets have been cleaned?

We recommend carpet protectant to help repel stains and extend the life of your carpet. This optional service is a simple spray application we can apply immediately after cleaning your carpets and is evenly distributed using a carpet groomer.

How does carpet protectant work?

Carpet protectant helps fill in microscopic scratches in carpet fibers that develop with use. Filling in these scratches from regular wear reduces the places soil can adhere to your carpet fibers. This, in turn, reduces carpet soiling between cleanings and extends the life of your carpet.

Can you remove all spots?

We will use our experience, knowledge and cleaning products to remove spots to the best of our ability. Unfortunately, not all spots can be removed. Sometimes spots of concern may be a stain and can be permanent. Be wary of anyone who claims they can remove any spot, as this is impossible to promise to fulfill.

How long does it take my furniture to dry after being cleaned?

Our low moisture upholstery cleaning tool provides short drying times of 2-3 hours. Fibers made from natural sources, including cotton, linen, rayon and wool, are more absorbent and may take longer to dry.

Do you clean my furniture at my residence?

Yes, we can obtain excellent results cleaning your furniture in your home. Most of our clients find this to be the most convenient option.

My furniture looks like it is suede. Can this be cleaned?

Genuine suede furniture is rare and expensive. If you have furniture that looks like suede, it is most likely microfibre. Microfibre is usually made from polyester and will clean well, but it can be challenging for homeowners to clean themselves.

Do you recommend fabric protectors?

Once your furniture has been professionally cleaned, it’s the ideal time to apply a fabric protector. When your furniture starts to wear, it can become more susceptible to soiling and staining. Fabric protector is an excellent way to extend the life of your furniture.

Why are spots reappearing after cleaning?

This happens most often when a large amount of liquid soaked into the carpet. Spots can “wick” back into the cleaned fibers from the backing or carpet padding. If this happens after your carpet have been cleaned by our team, give us a call.
